3 Real Photo Postcards likely taken in San Jose, California, perhaps in Alum Rock Park. These RPPCs show a large group of young men and women picnicking and hiking on April 5, 1908 (photos are dated, and the photographers initials are on two). These three photo postcards document a fun day of outdoor exploration and picnicking by a group of friends dressed in attire typical for the early 1900s. One image identifies some of those pictured including a woman named Iva. These postcards are from the collection of that person, Iva Blanche Smith. She attended the King Conservatory of Music in San Jose starting at age 16 and would have been 19 on the date these postcard photos were taken. In Iva’s self-reported written account of her life, she noted that the San Francisco earthquake on April 6, 1908 (the day after these photos) leveled many buildings in San Jose, including the conservatory which was damaged and had to close temporarily. Unposted, no rips, creases or tears.
