Very light crease on some pages, and delicate cover due to age. Salmon wraps printed front and back. Stitches 1.5 cm width. NOTES: A thorough advertisement for a dry cleaning and dyeing service to San Francisco elites who could afford to wear starched collars and silk. An interesting feature is the helpful publication of San Francisco Alarm box locations inside the front cover. Built in the 1860’s, San Francisco’s alarm box system is a network of hand crank powered telegraph lines to each of the of the city’s neighborhoods (many of which are obscured from line of sight observation by the city’s hills from the central fire station). The system worked effectively at controlling fires until, of course, the major conflagration of 1906 which overwhelmed all of the city’s systems. Also notable would be the telephone availablity advertised in the pamphlet. Eleven years later, you could calle the cleaners with it! Listing and template services provided by inkFrog.
