Unique Treasures From The U. And Around The Globe! During the 19th century, William Keith was one of the most successful and accomplished. Landscape painters working in California. A native of Aberdeen, Scotland, Keith settled. Permanently in San Francisco in 1859. After two years spent studying art in Dusseldorf. Work drew on several prevailing styles popular in the cultural centers of the world. Early works are most closely aligned with the romantic vision of the Hudson River School. He also focused on the more intimate landscapes of the French Barbizon. Movement that had come to the forefront of Parisian art appreciation during the 1860’s. Done in oil on canvas, this painting depicts a small pond, surrounded by a lush tree canopy. With a trail leading to a few houses at the foot of a Mount Tamalpais. Keith’s mastery of light is evident in this lovely play of light and dark. This beautiful 19th century painting is in a wonderful original period frame with a small brass plaque.
