Rare Cabinet Photo, 3 Graces, Yosemite. Fagerstein (1828 – 1889) was active/lived in California / Germany. Gustavus Fagerstein is known for Painting, daguerreotypist, pastels. Fagerstein was born in Germany in 1828. Fagerstein studied in Berlin at the Royal Academy. He appears to have arrived in northern California about 1870. He worked in San Francisco and was active in the local art scene until 1876. He then moved to Merced and had a studio in Yosemite in 1883-86 and one in Fresno until his demise in 1889. Exhibited: Mechanics’ Institute (SF), 1871; Arriola Relief Fund (SF), 1872; San Francisco Art Ass’n, 1872-75. Similar to a Carleton Watkins photograph from the same time period. Please look closely at photos for condition. It’s not on the actual item. Also, look at the numerous other photos I have available. Real photo postcards and large format photographs. Black and white, sepia, and hand tinted. Please feel free to ask if you have questions.

North Dome and Half Dome, Merced River. 8 ½ x 6 ½. Rich tonality, shows some light soiling at edges. Bumped corners/edges, two small tears at left border, pencil notations on verso. Is best known for his photographic series of images of burning. After the earthquake of 1906. However, he was a quite active in the California Camera Club photographing landscapes and architecture, receiving several awards for his images as mentioned in The American Amateur Photographer. Examples of his work in. Can be found in Sunset, Volume IV, Nov. 1889 to April 1900 (a publication of the Southern Pacific Company). This is an unsigned print with penciled title on verso presumed in the artist’s hand. We are currently listing a diverse selection of photography and art. Old travelers photo album from the 1920s. Belonged to a gentleman named Hugh M. They covered 4117 miles in 9 days! Shown in a very cool photo where they painted the distance of their trip on the back spare tire holder of the car (included in this lot). Also included are Old camp photos where they turned their car into a tent, great images of the Alamo, Yellowstone, Yosemite, various places in California including San Francisco and various old mission buildings, pikes peak, Colorado, and more! Please message us with any questions! We rescued these photos from an old barn, while the photos here are in good shape the paper backers are fragile and some have a musty odor.

1930’s Family Photo Album. 313 small photos, looks as if they were cut from contact sheets. The album was found in San Francisco. Large variety of photos. Beach Scenes (please be advised that there are several photos of the children unclothed). The photos are small approximately 1-1/4″ x 1-1/2″, some a bit larger, other a tad smaller. 20 pages of photos, 30 blank pages, tissue guards between each page. An amazing family record!

There are 120 photos in this album. Some are 5×7 inch with many being 3×4 inch with some smaller and some larger. 41 are Panama Pacific Exposition subjects including many buildings of the expo and featured displays and art with 9 being real photo postcards. 31 photos are of various nature and interesting subjects such as a Native American, a Mission, and a Fort and several very nice Yosemite photos many of which are a larger 6 1/2 x 5 inch Gelatin Silver. Lastly and most importantly there are 48 photos of the San Francisco 1906 earthquake damage and fire.
