The base shows some signs of wear, but it’s in very good condition overall. It looks neat on any desk, table, or anywhere. Approximate measurements: The piece of cable itself is 3″ Long x 2 3/4″ in diameter. The piece of cable itself weighs 1388 Grams. The base itself measures 3.5″ x 3.5″ x 2.5 Tall. Please note we often use recycled boxes and packing materials. While it is all clean-especially the interior packing material; the packing paper is often new-sometimes it’s used. The boxes may show wear. Most of the time the boxes are used. Please forgive us in advance for this. We are expert packers, so your item will arrive safely unless the carriers do a number on it, which they do occasionally :, but to keep our costs down (which serendipitously is good for the environment too), we do this. This is a section of an original suspender cable from the Golden Gate Bridge, spanning the entrance to San Francisco Bay known as the Golden Gate. The original suspender cable, manufactured by the John A. Roebling’s Sons Co. Was erected in 1936. This section of the original cable was removed and replaced with new cable during 1975 & 1976 by Al Johnson-Sehlins & Geer, a joint venture, as part of contract XL with the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District. A certificate of authenticity and the location from which this section was removed is on the reverse of the COA. Comes in original box with solid walnut base and COA. THIS ONE IS RARE PRESENTATION ISSUE “ONE OF A KIND” CABLE WITH METAL DISPLAY STAND THAT IS INSCRIBED: THE GOLDEN GATE BY ALLISTAIR MAC LEAN – FAWCETT. MACLEAN WAS A TOP-NOTCH NOVELIST AND THE BOOK “THE GOLDEN GATE” WAS HIS 1976 WORK. FAWCETT PUBLICATIONS WAS AN AMERICAN BOOK PUBLISHER FOUNDED IN 1950.
