1900 HISTORIC SUTRO BATHS BATHHOUSE in SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. San Francisco Vintage c. 1977 Wall Art Color Poster. Large Poster Measuring 35″ x 39″. “A small place would not satisfy me”, he said. I must have it large, pretentious, in keeping with the environment, with the Heights, with the great ocean itself. Completed in 1894, the swimming pools of the Sutro Baths were the largest of their kind in an era when there were many indoor saltwater establishments. This natatorium, at the end of San Francisco’s Ocean Beach, adjacent to the Cliff House, was a pleasure palace intended for the whole family. The swimmers had a choice of seven pools, the largest being unheated, the others (including one of fresh water) heated to various temperatures. Spring-boards, toboggan slides, trapezes, bars, swings, and all purchasable paraphenalia a complete gymnasium, rings… Shoot the chutes, bucking broncos were among the noted attractions. The largest of the Roman baths had about 200 feet of frontage… Two of these great bathing places might be dropped within the Sutro Baths and still leave room enough between them and outer walls for men to walk and women to flirt. The spectacular effect of the baths was prominent in the purpose of Mr. Sutro in planning these baths. Vintage Bob Fried Holy Smoke poster. The poster measures 22″ wide x 28″ tall. The poster is clean, bright colors and great whites! This was created by The Food, which was Robert Fried’s poster company. This was the third poster in a series. The hookah frog was their company logo. The poster has a few small wrinkled areas (thumbed sized), but no creases. This will flatten out great under glass! There are no holes, but there is one tiny tear on the left side in the margin (see photos). This isn’t really visible framed and under glass, but it is there. This is a rare find and you will be hard pressed to find one in better condition! This is very clean and definitely worthy of framing! From a smoke free, pet free home!

Up for sale is one 1942 Japanese Exclusion Zone No. 41 (San Francisco) poster. This poster is on a heavy card stock style material. The poster has some yellowing but not to bad. The history of this specific poster, This poster along with others were brought to the the Urban Ore recycling center in Berkeley California to be recycled at some time in the 1980s. The person who was recycling them stated that he found them cleaning out an office in the San Francisco Presidio. When my father passed away I found the posters in the back room of his shop. I always recall that he had them hanging on the wall and would sell them one at a time over the yeas. This story was told to me verbally by my fathers friend who was the one that worked at the recycling center. If you have any questions please ask. I will do my best to answer them.
