California Plein Air Painting Mel Amaral Point Bonita Lighthouse San Francisco Bay. This painting is in excellent condition. There are no flaws. The entire board measures 14 7/8 inches by 11 inches. The painting measures 12 7/16 inches by 8 1/2 inches. I really think Mr. Amaral’s work combines the best elements of realism with impressionism. Also, because of the surface on which this work was done this painting has a wonderfully subtle textural quality to it. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS. I strive to receive 5/5!! Unique Treasures From The U. And Around The Globe! During the 19th century, William Keith was one of the most successful and accomplished. Landscape painters working in California. A native of Aberdeen, Scotland, Keith settled. Permanently in San Francisco in 1859. After two years spent studying art in Dusseldorf. Work drew on several prevailing styles popular in the cultural centers of the world. Early works are most closely aligned with the romantic vision of the Hudson River School. He also focused on the more intimate landscapes of the French Barbizon. Movement that had come to the forefront of Parisian art appreciation during the 1860’s. Done in oil on canvas, this painting depicts a small pond, surrounded by a lush tree canopy. With a trail leading to a few houses at the foot of a Mount Tamalpais. Keith’s mastery of light is evident in this lovely play of light and dark. This beautiful 19th century painting is in a wonderful original period frame with a small brass plaque. Unique Treasures From The U. And Around The Globe! Rinaldo (Richard) Cuneo Early 20th Century San Francisco Plein Air. This work is mounted in an extraordinary hand carved 14k gold leaf frame by “Baileys”, “The Handcrafted Frame”, of Santa Barbara, CA…. Signature impressed into the back rear of the frame. This piece is dated 1912 on the reverse. Born in San Francisco California in 1877, Rinaldo Cuneo was a painter of landscapes, still life’s and city views. He studied with Arthur Mathews and Piazzoni at the “Mark Hopkins Institute of Art”, San Francisco. He then went to London and France where he studied at the “Academie Colarossi in Paris” c. Cuneo was a member of the San Francisco Artists Association, The Society of Muralists Northern Ca. He exhibited at the Helgesen Gallery, S. 1913 and then again in 1916 and 1917; The Panama Pacific Exposition 1915; just to name a couple. His works are held at the University of Berkeley Art Museum; Sierra Nevada Museum Reno, the de Young Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Fine Art. Cuneo was commissioned by the Federal Art Project administrators to paint murals in the prestigious Coit Tower, San Francisco, c. Rinaldo came from a family of artists; two of his brothers, Cyrus and Egisto Cuneo, and several other family members were founders of the Tivoli Opera Company in San Francisco. This work is oil on board. There is a date in pencil on the reverse, 1912. Both the frame and painting are in clean and excellent condition.
