Get this great Vintage 1990 Gregory Hines Tap Dancer Framed Photography by Michael Collopy. The Photographer, Michael Collopy, lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and took this photo at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, California. It is printed with a sepia tone and the photo is sized 14″ x 18″. It has some flocking spots on the print due to improper storage but can probably be cleaned. Comes with a nice black rimmed framed and matting. I used to work at the photo lab where Michael was a customer and we printed this photo. He gave me this print. I love it but have no room on my walls.

RARE Bill Owens Suburbia 1st Printing Hardcover w/Slipcase 1973 PHOTOGRAPHY HISTORY BOOK. For sale is this rare, 1st printing, photography book from Bill Owens titled Suburbia. Bill captured his friends and neighbors in Northern California during the late 60’s/early 70’s; capturing what was the “American Dream” of the suburban life outside the cities. The ultimate symbol of the American Dream is owning your own house. This book is basically a time capsule of that pursuit with beautifully composed and organic moments Bill photographed and included captions/quotes from those he captured. All photos are black and white. Some have said this is the most important photography book of the late 20th century with many trying to copy Bill’s style here but never duplicating it. The book is in good used condition – not new, I’d say it was enjoyed. As you will see in the photos, the green cloth exterior slipcase has some edge/surface wear from being placed on/off a shelf or handled. The book itself with a green cloth exterior has no page tears, no missing pages and no 3rd party writing. The exterior of the book has some minor wear and a slight line indentation on the green cloth front, to the left of the title Suburbia. The back cover at the very bottom edge of the spine has a small tear as seen in photo # 8. The binding is used with rubbing and some pages are a bit lifted from the spin glue – so one must be careful with turning each page. Publisher: Straight Arrow Books in San Francisco – 1973. Including one contact sheet. An exceptional collection of vernacular photography documenting San Francisco’s all male gay motorcycle clubs in the 1970s and’80s. Clubs such as the ones shown in this collection emerged in the early 1950’s together with burgeoning leatherman culture. The groups celebrated hypermasculinity and leather fetishism, and above all else were social clubs which provided their members with a safe space for unabashed sexual expression and community, in an era where homosexuality was criminalized. The motorcycle clubs were known for their “runs” – weekend or week-long bike rides to nearby campgrounds and beaches, where they could party without police surveillance, an increasing problem in the gay leather bars in the city. This collection depicts the gay bikers partying at leather bars, on the road, and attending a pool party. Some images include bikers presenting awards on a stage and serving food and drinks at a bar, presumably for an awards ceremony or banquet celebrating the motorcycle clubs. Locations and specific biker clubs depicted in the shots are unknown. The variety of clubs depicted may indicate documentation of a multi-club run or yearly celebration of local clubs. These wedding portraits are extremely rare and were taken in December, 1946, after he had established a commercial photography business in a small store-front studio in Carmel, CA, earlier that year. But in the early 1950’s he relocated to Berkeley, CA, and during the late 1950s he was chairman of the photographic department at the San Francisco Art Institute. These portraits were obtained during a brief window of opportunity when he did portrait photography before he became a world class landscape and architectural photographer. The larger portrait has the words, ” Photograph by Morley Baer Carmel, California” and #1457-3A. There is an additional cut on the left side of the photo made by the photographer. It has never been framed. The subject of the smaller photo in the folio is the bride with the same blouse, jacket, and hat as in the photo of the couple, and it appears to be a studio shot. There is no mark on the back indicating Morley Baer’s photography, but what appears to be a “3” crossed out and a “4”. Morley Baer went on to receive the distinguished National Award for Photography from the American Institute of Architects in 1966 and, in 1967, became one of the original founders of Friends of Photography along with Ansel Adams and Brett Weston in Carmel. In 1979 he became the first photographer ever to receive the coveted Prix de Rome from the American Academy. Countless articles and books have featured Baer’s photography, including his 1989 lifetime retrospective monograph entitled “Light Years”. Baer taught and mentored countless students in landscape and architectural photography from his stone house near Garrapata Beach, CA. From a pet-free, smoke-free, scent-free and mildew-free home.
