San Francisco Hyde Street sign. Up for sale today is this Hyde Street, 2300 block sign. The sign is made to the 1965 specification used by the city of San Francisco and still seen along its streets to the present day. This is the last style of all-capitals signage, before they went to mixed case in 2009. I can make any street name sign, from San Francisco or any other city! Ask about your favorite street! The sign is 30 by 10 inches, and weighs about 6 lb. This is a high quality, heavy steel remake, printed on one side for economical display against a wall or other flat surface. It is a non-reflective sign, making it ideal for ordinary display, inside or out. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! Would you like a street name or block number not seen here? Offering this beautiful and likely very rare Joe Altman photograph of Alcatraz from Hyde Street Pier, circa 1979. To be clear, the photo was taken in 1979 and the print was done in 1985, as stated on verso. Also a nice personalized birthday wish to a friend on back from Joe. This photo (likely a gelatin silver print) measures 13″ by 9 1/2″ and is mounted to a board with a matte that measures 20″ by 16″. The matte does show a very light bit of dirt here and there but not too bad. Work is pencil signed and dated on front and has other info and personalized message on rear in pencil also. Joe Altman was primarily known for his photos of the gay community in San Francisco in the 70s and 80s. There is little to no sales pricing information out there on his work that I could find. The California Historical Society has a large collection of his work I believe. Also many photos in the Online Archive of California. Thanks for looking and good luck!

His photographs participated in more environmental campaigns than those of any other photographer. At the birth of the modern environmental movement, he was one of the primary illustrators of the groundbreaking Sierra Club Exhibit Format Series. He dedicated his life to defending Western American wilderness, working with the Wilderness Society, National Audubon and others. His color landscapes inspired a generation of photographers, while helping to establish color photography as a fine art. His photographs helped protect Dinosaur National Monument, the Grand Canyon, the Coast Redwoods, Point Reyes, King’s Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, the North Cascades, Canyonlands, the Wind Rivers, Big Sur and many other National Parks and wilderness areas. American Photo Magazine named Philip Hyde’s photograph, “Cathedral In The Desert, Glen Canyon, Utah, 1964″ one of the top 100 photographs of the 20th century. Ansel Adams said that Philip Hyde was one of the very best photographers of the natural scene in America. ” Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Jack Dykinga said, “Philip Hyde inspired many of the’Who’s Who’ of Landscape Photography working today. ” In Outdoor Photographer and many other magazines, Philip Hyde is referred to as “one of the all-time most influential landscape masters. Born and raised in San Francisco, Philip Hyde lived for 50 years in the house he built in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California with his late wife Ardis.
