ITEM: (2) Large, vintage PHOTOS as follows. Side one: The Geary Toni Rembe Theatre, now the Columbia Theater in San Francisco. This was a replacement for the earlier Columbia theatre on Powell Street lost in 1906. In June 1906, Gottlob and Marx had announced a New Columbia Theatre to be built at Van Ness and Geary, a project that never happened. From 1907 until 1910 they did their shows at the Van Ness Theatre on Van Ness and Grove. Architects were Walter Bliss and William Faville. Two members of the firm were sent to Europe to study the best examples of theatre architecture. The facade’s polyxchrome terracotta is by Gladding, McBean & Co. Side two: Shows the aftermath of a fire at one of the warehouses at the Gladding McBean company factory in Lincoln, California. These photos are pasted on each side of a thick piece of cardboard. Date: 1905 and 1910. Theater photo size: 9.75″ x 11.50″ has damage on right side, see images. Gladding McBean photo size: 8.50″ x 9.50″. Board size: 12″ x 10″.
