The Sting of the Wasp. [political and satirical cartoons]. [1967] limited printing; Book Club of California; near fine folio hardcover with acetate jacket. This edition was limited to 450 copies, of which this is apparently Copy 1. There is laid in the publisher’s broadside insert with prospectus and full page color illustration. Also laid in is a small cardstock typed note: BCC – #127 / Copy #1. The card is aged appropriately and was obviously produced with a typewriter. Pretty cool, to be honest. The WASP was a San Francisco weekly periodical that began publication in the mid-1870’s and ran until the 1940’s. The paper was known for its satire and outrageous illustrations. The present volume (printed in 1967) is a celebration of the Wasp’s imagination. It contains twenty full-page lithographs from the celebrated San Francisco weekly. The book is tight/square, tidy, unmarked, and crisp. Acetate jacket is very good, with some mild rubbing and edgewear. An entertaining and compelling volume for the art enthusiast and/or book collector, collector of Western Americana. The potential #1 status makes it all the more intriguing.
