Rare Cabinet Photo, 3 Graces, Yosemite. Fagerstein (1828 – 1889) was active/lived in California / Germany. Gustavus Fagerstein is known for Painting, daguerreotypist, pastels. Fagerstein was born in Germany in 1828. Fagerstein studied in Berlin at the Royal Academy. He appears to have arrived in northern California about 1870. He worked in San Francisco and was active in the local art scene until 1876. He then moved to Merced and had a studio in Yosemite in 1883-86 and one in Fresno until his demise in 1889. Exhibited: Mechanics’ Institute (SF), 1871; Arriola Relief Fund (SF), 1872; San Francisco Art Ass’n, 1872-75. Similar to a Carleton Watkins photograph from the same time period. Please look closely at photos for condition. It’s not on the actual item. Also, look at the numerous other photos I have available. Real photo postcards and large format photographs.
