San Francisco News Letter and California Advertiser December 22, 1883 Edition. Fragile, missing cover and first pages, soft corners. The newspaper is bound by string. It measures: 9 in. It begins on page 7 with the lithograph shown, “Day-Break” and ends on page 50 with short articles and advertising. A weekly newspaper, published on Saturdays, beginning 1880. It contains photos of items and business advertising for them, stories, articles and lithographs. It was placed in hotels and on steamships. This one comes with ferns someone had pressed between the pages. I focus on repeat customers and try to ensure all are happy. Illustrated with photos, drawings, and maps. AMAZING ADS IN THE BACK OF BOOK. Printed on glossy paper, each page includes at least one illustration. Foldout map, 8″ x 18″, of San Francisco before the earthquake. Published as San Francisco was rebuilding after the 1906 earthquake, this book shows “modern” San Francisco as it was and as people hoped it was going to be. The hundreds of illustrations include photos of new and restored buildings, as well as drawings of homes and buildings planned but not yet completed. Condition: Pages are clean, no writing. The binding is loose [see posted pictures], cover spine cover is gone see pictures, but all pages and cover are attached. Cover shows signs of wear on the edges and spine, and the front cover is as shown, look at posted photos.

Peter Lik’s “Guardian” is a Limited Edition low number 40/950. Hand signed and numbered by the Artist, Peter Lik. This one is rare, we could not find any listings for another one for sale. Here are Peter’s words about Guardian: San Francisco, California I was up at the Marin Headlands shooting panoramic images of the twilight city skyline, when I noticed the possibility of an unusual composition. Changing to my Canon, I focussed on one pylon of the Golden Gate Bridge using it as the focal point of my image. The Transamerica pyramid was framed perfectly in the centre of a turret of the bridge, and I knew the 300mm lens would really compress the perspective of the shot. I bracketed a series of exposures and when I saw the results I was delighted. The long exposure really saturated the colours and makes the entire image glow, and the bridge is transformed into the imposing guardian of the distant city skyline. This is a rare first edition of “The Annals of San Francisco” by Frank Soule, John H. Gibbon, and James Nisbet. The hardcover book, printed in 1855 by D. Appleton & Company, contains both maps and is in its original condition. The literature topic covers the history of San Francisco and the North American region. The book is a valuable addition to any collection of antiquarian and collectible books. This copy was found in a Midcoast Maine estate. It has several of the front and rear endpaper pages missing as shown in the photos. Both maps are present, however the large fold out map requires restoration and repressing, as it is wrinkled and in 3 pieces. Some foxing and staining present, as well as ghost images of pressed leaves on some pages. This book retains its handsome leather binding which has remained fairly supple, and holds much of its original gilt lettering. Overall a solid copy of a very desired book on early California history.
