San Francisco Antique Photo – Valencia St. Sugarie Candy Store Business. Image is 9.5 wide x 7.75 tall. With backing 13.75″ x 11″. The Sugarie is at 993 Valencia. I believe it is a portion of the building that the Valencia Whole Foods occupies now. The Sugarie appears in the 1907 San Francisco-Oakland Directory (ending June 30) at this address. I don’t know how long they occupied that spaced. Other “Sugarie” businesses also appeared in that directory (Haight, California streets) but it is unknown if they were affiliated with this one.

Offered here is an original painting by California artist Phyllis Ciment, circa 1970s or’80s. Painting appears to be acrylic on board or paper and measures 14 1/2 x 16 inches (sight). The overall framed size is 27 x 27 inches. Painting is signed at lower right. Painting is in very good condition, under glass, with fabric matting and original framing. Phyllis Ciment -California Modern -Downtown San Francisco City View 1970s/80s. Phyllis Ciment is an award winning artist born in Los Angeles and now makes her home in San Francisco. Classically trained at the School of the Arts at Boston University, where she received her BFA and the “Outstanding Painting Award”, she then earned a MA at the University of Miami. Ciment has exhibited and had her work in numerous galleries. She has achieved mastery in a wide array of media including oil, acrylic, and pastel. Painting the City by the Bay has been an inspiration as well as her profession. The Golden Gate National Park Service has commissioned her work for reproduction of historical sites. Ciment’s work is in the collection of Bank of America, Kaiser Hospital, the Zellerbach Family Collection, and listed in the the Archives of American Art in the Smithsonian.
