Klein was born in El Paso, Texas in 1918, but moved to California where he attended the Art Center School (later renamed Art Center College of Design) in Los Angeles. During the 1930s, he was a prominent member of the California Watercolor Society and displayed his work at various exhibits, most notably the Golden Gate International Exposition of 1939-40. Although he produced illustrations for Broadway theatrical productions, Hollywood films, the United States Army, and numerous corporate clients, Klein is best remembered for the iconic travel images he created for Howard Hughes and Trans World Airlines (TWA) during the 1950s and 1960s. Historic Silver Slug Pamphlet Included, But Not Photographed! Davis Company of San Francisco was a silver scrapper originating in the 1950’s and later worked directly with the San Francisco Mint Assay Office in the redemption of Silver Certificates until its completion in 1968. The end of the certificate redemption period was formalized with the production of the 1968 David C. Davis San Francisco Commemorative Silver Slug, as shown below. Silver Ingots produced by the David C. Davis Company were produced in very limited mintage from the late 1950’s to mid 1960’s and are considered highly collectible in all weight classes. We have no doubt that most examples did not survive the great melts of 1979/1980 and 2011. Davis San Francisco Commemorative Silver Slug, designed by V. Hanks Junior and David C. Maximum limit of 10,000 was planned and at least 1520 were produced. Also included is advertising literature from original issuance. DESCRIPTION: Original and Extremely Rare and Vintage David Bowie 1972 Handbill (leaflet and mini poster) from Bill Graham Presents for David Bowie’s concert at Winterland in San Francisco California on October 27 & 28 1972. The record album “The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars” had been released earlier that year. An article from the S. Examiner newspaper regarding David Bowie is printed on the backside. I inherited this handbill from a music memorabilia collector who found it on a sidewalk in San Francisco in 1972, hence the dirt smudges. I have only seen one other come up for sale and that was a few years ago. These were promotional paper handouts and were also affixed to telephone polls and other street posts and most were likely tossed into the trash after the concert. Very difficult to find. Measures 5.5 x 8.5 inches. CONDITION: Very good condition. Has a small tear to one side and a small piece of clear tape on the bottom front center area.
