101.5 x 18 cm (40 x 7 in). 1930 panoramic photograph of Crockett, CA, showing the old Carquinez Bridge and the California and Hawaiian Sugar Company refinery that is still in use today. The bridge, which was built in 1927 (with a parallel bridge completed in 1958 to allow for greater traffic and the original bridge replaced in 2003), spans the Carquinez Strait, the estuary of the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers where they drain into the San Francisco Bay. Crockett was a true company town at the time this photograph was taken, with nearly everyone in the city employed by the sugar company. The photograph was produced by Morton & Co. Based in San Francisco.
