This listing is for the original oil painting that you see in the photos. Albert Tolf was an American artist, best-known for his paintings and cartoons about the city of San Francisco and its history. I do not know when it was painted. The frame makes me think that it was probably painted during the latter part of his life. The scene looks like San Francisco to me. The frame measures close to 17 ½ by 32 ¼ inches. The area of the painting exposed by the frame measures close to 14 ½ by 29 ¼ inches. The framed painting weighs close to 3 pounds 4 ounces. The painting feels like it is painted on some kind of canvas art board. I have not examined it out of its frame. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. Painting and frame are in excellent damage with no damage. The paint looks stable with no cracks. They look clean to me but the painting or frame might benefit from a light cleaning. There is a small tear in the paper backing on the frame. Otherwise, painting and frame are fine and as shown. I guarantee this painting and frame to be as described and represented by the 21 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs “close to” because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure. Often, I have a double wall box custom made for larger items and that might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually biodegradable. This listing is for an original 1905 era pastel painting of a San Francisco night scene cityscape. An early style sidewheeler ferry is prominent on the left foreground, with the famous ferry building prominent behind it. In the right background is the Fairmont Hotel, and between it and the ferry building is the profile of the city at night. A wonderful piece of art. Unsigned but very reminiscent of Wm. This was hard to take pictures of due to its dark nature everything reflected in the glass. Measures about 28-1/2″ long x 10-3/4″ tall at frame extremities. This is fresh from a closet and shows normal wear and patina for an item of this vintage. Pics give an accurate portrayal of condition.
