Vintage Original Anna Chrasta San Francisco Bay Painting – Signed California Cityscape / Sailboat. Beautiful original vintage painting by listed California artist Anna Chrasta American, b. 1943, depicting a panoramic San Francisco Bay waterfront scene with a solitary sailboat, city skyline and architectural forms rising beyond the water. Anna Chrasta is known for paintings of San Francisco, the Bay Area, coastal landscapes, sailboats, waterfront scenes and city views. This is an original hand-painted work, not a print or reproduction. Close inspection shows individually applied paint, visible brush and palette-knife work, layered pigment, raised texture and impasto throughout the skyline, sailboat and water. The composition has a striking panoramic horizontal format, with a cool California palette of turquoise, aqua, pale blue, white, charcoal, black and warm brown. Cathay House – Chinatown S. 6 15/16 x 5 platemark. Titled in pencil, lower left. Anna Mae Aiello was born in 1903, and from the 1930’s to the 1940’s she spent most of her time working on pieces depicting the surroundings of Chinatown, San Francisco, California. The Chinatown of San Francisco is the oldest Chinatown in North America and the largest Chinese community outside of Asia. In this drypoint print, Aiello has drawn the Cathay House, which is enriched with reflections of Asian architecture.

Anna Chrasta, is the artist who painted this listing. The artwork is an excellent composition of Lombard Street, in San Francisco, California. According to historical records, there is not an individual to whom Lombard Street was named. The records indicate that the name was borrowed from a street in Philadelphia, PA. I find that most interesting as the two Lombard Streets have no resemblance to each other at all (I have looked to be sure). This artwork is classic Anna Chrasta. All of her paintings tell a story of her native city of San Francisco. I have spent much time vacationing there with my wife and family. The man-made and natural surroundings are very inspirational, artistically speaking. Lombard Street, has the distinction of being labeled as the most crooked street in the world. It may be the most crooked street in the USA. But I have traveled throughout Central Africa many times. You have not seen crooked streets until you have traveled in Uganda, and parts of Kenya. All of the above said it is a wonderful artwork that tells, quite perfectly, the story of the street that is recognized by traveler’s world over. I believe that the photos provided represent this artwork very well, but to see it up close and personal it is even far better. The colors are rich and bold, without sun fading.
