Hardcover, Full dark leather over the front and rear boards, light brown spine leather with 5 raised bands; gilt stamped front and rear panel borders and gilt stamped spine lettering and decorations. Moire fabric paste downs and end papers, sewn in satin ribbon marker. The volume is edge rubbed with bumped corners and some chipping on the spine crown, tape on inside front, all pages clean and bright. A later work, As I Remember Them (1913), contains reminiscences and biographical sketches of men he had known in California and Nevada. 75 sketches by Charles Carroll Goodwin to include, General John A. Van Ness, San Francisco WC on paper. This lovely bright painting is in excellent condition, there is no fading, discoloration or foxing. Trautner’s incredible Mid Century. California Watercolor Style, it shows her use colors, spectacular natural talent with watercolor, pin and ink. Notice Virginia Trautner has written the address of this charming Victorian on the back of this painting. She also has written on the. Back of what I would assume would have been the backing on the frame the following. Both are included in the photos and included with the painting. Virginia Cleveland Trautner was born on August 23, 1915. Cleveland moved to Oakland in the 1920’s. After she earned her B. Degree from California College of Arts and Crafts. She later taught art at San Leandro. School for many years. She wed Robert Trautner in 1944 and settled nearby in San Lorenzo. She died there on. Member: San Leandro Art Ass’n; Oakland Art.
