This iconic image, titled “San Francisco Cable Car in Fog, ” depicts a Powell-Hyde cable car passing the world-famous Buena Vista Cafe (the home of Irish Coffee in America). Robert Kent was a celebrated watercolorist and member of the National Watercolor Society, known for capturing the moody, atmospheric light of the Bay Area. This print perfectly captures the “Karl the Fog” vibe that San Francisco is famous for. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The print is crisp with no fading. (one of two by the photographer in my shop)By the noted American photographer ROBERT “Bob” WERLING (1946-), this is an original gelatin silver print photograph of reflections in a western American mountain lake, pencil signed at lower right margin by the artist photographer. The scene of the high country in the American West, is perhaps Colorado, or possibly, California, such as Yosemite. Werling was born in San Francisco and very early in life showed artistic promise and drive. Brett Weston was a friend. Werling lectured at the Werkschule fur Fotographie in Soltau, Germany, and he continues to split his time between Europe and California. This photograph is in excellent condition. Measurements are 18 1/2″ by 14 1/2″ and 24 1/2″ by 20 1/2″ in silver metal frame.

It is pencil signed on mount at lower right. The overall mount size is 16 x 20 inches. Photograph is unmatted and unframed. Robert Werling was born in San Francisco, California in 1946 and realized an interest in art at an early age. While briefly attending a commercial art school, he found photography to be his medium and went on to obtain both a BA and an honorary MS from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. He also studied privately under Ansel Adams from 1966 to 1970 and Imogen Cunningham from 1969 to 1975. Through his affiliation with Adams, Werling came to know and work with other noted photographers. Brett Weston became his close friend and mentor and Marion Post Wolcott, relying on his darkroom expertise, entrusted her negatives to his printing genius. While creating an impressive number of his own fine art prints, Werling also lectured extensively and worked as an instructor for the Brooks Institute, the University of California, Santa Barbara, the Zone System Seminars and Workshops in the United States, and for the Werkschule fur Fotografie in Soltau, Germany.
