Original vintage and huge 16 by 19.5 inch (board is 19 by 24 inch) gelatin silver photograph taken by San Francisco photographer Edward Carroll, whose archive is held in part by the Bancroft Library and the University of California. Not signed or stamped. This portrait is of Kenneth Everette Betelle (1927 – 2013), aka Mr. Kenneth the first celebrity hairdresser in New York City. He styled Jaqueline Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and many others. After working for Helena Rubenstein and Lilly Dache, he formed his own studio, Kenneth, in 1963 on East 54th Street. This photograph likely dates from the early 1960s.
