Ruffin Cooper Original’73 Photo of California Desert Noted San Francisco Artist
Cooper, the son of a Texas banker, was a 1960s bohemian artist in New York and San Francisco. He spent time at Woodstock, lived on a New Mexico commune, and knew Warhol, Allan Ginsburg, and Dennis Hopper. He achieved success as a commercial and fine art photographer in San Francisco in the 1970s and 1980s, exhibiting widely both nationally and internationally including a solo exhibition of his photographs at the Brooklyn Museum in the 1980s. Best known for his architectural and abstract images, this image, titled “Poppies & Yucca, ” is mounted to heavy Arches paper. It is signed and dated 1973 on the mount lower right, numbered 16/75 lower center, and is titled lower left. It measures 19.5″ x 13″ (image size). It is in excellent condition.
