The Handle does operate the stop valve inside, goes up and down beautifully and comes to a nice complete stop inside. Made by the famous fire, hydrant company, Maurice Greenberg, and Sons, who in the Victorian. We’re commissioned to make all the fire hydrants for San Francisco city I have continued to make many different brass including my research, tells me parts for all over San Francisco, including the Golden Gate Bridge. I understand that the bottom flange would go onto the existing water supply and then the male screw part on the right is what the firefighters will attach the hose to. I think it was nearly 20 pounds but I’ve got to go ahead and clarify that tomorrow. I’m having a friend come over with some scales, and I shall measure it. I do have lots of other firefighters, equipment, hoses, nozzles hose contraptions on my side. If you think it is a little high, let me know I will work with you. These came from the museum and we wanted to go to a good home. If you are from San Francisco and love this piece, I live in Benicia, CA 94510.
