It depicts an anti-Chinese demonstration in the Sandlots of San Francisco California. This was based on labor unrest. On the back of the print is 4-inch article on the subject. Soon after this print was made, the Angell Treaty of 1880 (formally known as the Treaty Regulating Immigration from China) was a modification of the 1868 Burlingame Treaty between the United States and China, passed in Beijing on November 17, 1880. Two years later, the Chinese Exclusion Act was a United States federal law signed by President Chester A. Arthur on May 6, 1882, prohibiting all immigration of Chinese laborers. The page is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 16 inches (28 x 40.5 cm). The picture fills about half of it, with a caption below. Above it are portraits of HRH Baroness von Pawel Rammingen and Baron von Pawell Rammington at the time of their wedding. These portraits could be trimmed for framing.
