Image size 9×11 of colorful flower market 1940s! San Francisco Watercolor Prints by Frank Serratoni In the late 1940’s Serratoni moved to San Francisco from Detroit. There he first started a silk screen process with his San Francisco prints. His first effort was not successful: the process because the original color range was limited and eventually faded. Next he created a new method for his small 1940’s San Francisco prints. They were a lithographed (plates were made for each of the 12 scenes) on a watercolor tolerant paper. The watercolors were then applied to the lithographs — each print was then painted with watercolors resulting in a finished looked that approximated an original. He blended the colors giving the right tones for each area. Because each was done individually, each is slightly different. These watercolor prints provided him with a steady income supplement and they were a big tourist attraction. Serratoni watercolors hang in the Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco, CA and the exclusive men’s club, Olympic. The large watercolors are still hanging in the Fairmont Hotel along with other well-known artist. Is listed in Edan Hughes’ book, Artists in California. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”.
