DESCRIPTION: A beautiful watercolor painting, impressionist’portrait’ of an orange chrysanthemum. Beautifully painted, original framing. LABELING: Artist’s label on back with name, title, media. PLACE OF ORIGIN: San Francisco, California. Good condition, as examined through glass. Minor age and wear. Rene Weaver (1897 – 1984). Was born in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from the University of Idaho and studied figure and landscape painting with Emil Jacques in Portland, where he then went to. Work for an advertising agency before moving to California. In 1936, he settled in San Francisco and, for 24 years, worked for the Thompson Advertising Agency. He had a painting studio at Sansome and Market streets in the Flatiron Building, and he taught classes to adults. A member of the California Art Club, he went on plein-air painting excursions, often accompanied by his friend Maurice Logan. Memberships included the Bohemian Club, California Watercolor Society and Southwest Artists, which he served as President. Weaver died on July 6, 1984 in San Francisco. P e n c i l p o i n t e r >.
