“Scenes of Wonder and Curiosity in California” Gilt decorated antiquarian hardcover book in good condition. The second variant of the first edition, which was printed in 1861 by J. The most remarkable section in my opinion is the one on the Farallone Islands, in which which the author describes the behavior of elephant seals. There are a few comical sketches within this same section. Check the listing photo depicting the ocean passage. The author also mentions the Farallone Island Egg Company, which provided a large percentage of eggs to San Francisco during Spring and Summer months. There are many other wonderful scenes of California’s landscape such as Yosemite. There is general wear to the exterior including a few spots, scuffs, bumped/chipped corners. Overall condition remains good, as this work is fully intact with all prints and text in good condition. This item is in the category “Books & Magazines\Antiquarian & Collectible”.
