A solid brass replica of the Conductors bell that sounds just like the real one on San Franciscos cable cars. 5 section of a polished cable strand utilized as the bell pull. This strand from 1982 is made up of 19 steel wires and is attached to the bell with a gold cord. 3.25 section of cable resting on a section of grip die. The cable is not fixed to the die allowing it to be held in your hand. The section of steel cable is made up of 6 strands of 19 wires around a sisal core. It was taken out of service in 1982 and is wrapped in a copper band with a brass medallion. The medallion on the cable read. 4 section of grip die that is fixed to the wooden brake. The steel die is the component in the grip mechanism (the lever used by the Gripman operating a cable car) that comes in contact with the moving cable. An etched brass (4×3) plaque describing the bell ringing code used by the conductor to communicate with the gripman. A wood brake split lengthwise to make an interesting mount for the conductors bell, steel die, cable section and the bell ringing code plaque. This brake is made of pine and when the gripman pulls on the brake lever it applies pressure on the tracks to slow the car down. Finished size and weight: 24 x 5 x 5; 6 lbs.
