This antique California gold nugget presentation ring will be exactly 100 years old in December. Not many gold nuggets can be dated to be from an earlier period. The size of the nugget is 7/8″ long x 3/8″ wide x 1/4 thick. Total weight is 10.28 grams. The size is a 10.5 (man’s ring size). The large California nugget was set diagonally on the 18k gold band and looks absolutely stunning when, or when not, being worn. It would be nice to have the provenance of the ring. There’s probably a very interesting story behind the nugget – being a presentation piece – possibly going back to the early days of the gold rush. We can only have the fun of speculating but it’s at least 100 years old. Nice, aesthetically appealing nuggets like this usually sell at a premium for their display qualities. This special nugget should command a much higher premium as fine, antique, raw (California) gold nugget jewelry in excellent condition. Last image shows the ring on my 66 year old finger. Please excuse the wrinkles. It comes in an original, green toned presentation box in excellent condition. The base is lined with yellow velvet and has a slanted ring slot that nicely displays the nugget. The inside of the lid is lined with pale yellow silk marked “SCHREVE, TREAT & / EACRET / 136 GEARY STREET / SAN FRANCISCO”.
