This work is mounted in an extraordinary hand carved 14k gold leaf frame by “Baileys”, “The Handcrafted Frame”, of Santa Barbara, CA…. Signature impressed into the back rear of the frame. This piece is dated 1912 on the reverse. Born in San Francisco California in 1877, Rinaldo Cuneo was a painter of landscapes, still life’s and city views. He studied with Arthur Mathews and Piazzoni at the “Mark Hopkins Institute of Art”, San Francisco. He then went to London and France where he studied at the “Academie Colarossi in Paris” c. Cuneo was a member of the San Francisco Artists Association, The Society of Muralists Northern Ca. He exhibited at the Helgesen Gallery, S. 1913 and then again in 1916 and 1917; The Panama Pacific Exposition 1915; just to name a couple. His works are held at the University of Berkeley Art Museum; Sierra Nevada Museum Reno, the de Young Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Fine Art. Cuneo was commissioned by the Federal Art Project administrators to paint murals in the prestigious Coit Tower, San Francisco, c. Rinaldo came from a family of artists; two of his brothers, Cyrus and Egisto Cuneo, and several other family members were founders of the Tivoli Opera Company in San Francisco. This work is oil on board. There is a date in pencil on the reverse, 1912. Both the frame and painting are in clean and excellent condition.
